Texas Watch Back to What's New

CareWatch® - (September, 2008)

We are pleased to announce the addition of three more payment analysis reports for the Texas Watch page:  the Time-Weighted Rate and CMI Resident Roster; the Time-Weighted Rate and CMI Resident Summary; and the Point in Time Rate and Case Mix Index Report.  These new reports all use the Texas September 1, 2008 case mix index values and also display the per diem rates.  The original reports on the Texas Watch menu now also use the September 1, 2008 case mix index values, however, they do not include the per diem rates.

In order to access this page, your facility or organization must be in the state of Texas and users need to have Analysis permissions in CareWatch®.  These pages are available at all levels:  the organizational, regional, and facility.  To view the pages, log in and click on the underlined link, "Texas Watch" found under ANALYSIS on the gold navigation bar to the left of the page.  This will open the Texas Watch menu page:

To then open any of these payment analyses, simply click on the name of the report you wish to view.  Once you click the link, a new page will open showing you the specific report you selected.

These reports share some similarities in that most have drill through capabilities which let you retrieve more detailed information such as CMI summaries for specific residents and the RUG calculations for individuals.  They also all use the September 1, 2008 Texas case mix index values and include the per diem rates.

The Time-Weighted Rate and CMI Resident Roster Report provides you with a detailed breakdown of care days, RUG dollars, and average per diem by resident within a facility by quarter.  When you initially open the page, the report will display the results for the last full quarter:

To view other time periods, click on your desired quarter from the drop down box in the top right corner of the page. This will re-create the report with that date.  The results you see here will be limited to the assessments which have been included in batches created on or before this date.

Additionally, you can click on a resident's name in the report to see all of the details of her/his CMI Summary for RUG 34.  You can also click on an underlined RUG code to move to a page which shows you the RUG calculation for that particular code using the Index Method for RUG 34.

The Time-Weighted Rate and CMI Report Summary, shown below, provides you with the number of resident days, CMI Points by RUG group, the per diem, and dollars for the groups of "All Residents" and "Medicaid Residents."  It is generated for a single facility for a specified single quarter.  CMI Points are calculated using the formula of Number of Days x the CMI Value.

You can select the quarter you wish to view by using the same method as in the previous report:  click on the quarter you want from the drop down list.  This report can also be sorted by any of the column categories by clicking on the underlined heading; the report will then be reconfigured according to that selection.  And finally, you will find the overall totals and averages for the various days, CMI values, CMI Points, per diems, and dollars by category, located at the end of the table.

The final payment analysis report added with the September 1, 2008 case mix index values to the Texas Watch page is the Point in Time Rate and Case Mix Index Report.  This report is similar to the other reports in that it provides you with detailed information regarding a specific resident's RUG code, case mix index value, per diem, and payer source information among other items.  However, this report differs significantly from the others because it looks at a resident's data within a facility on a specific single day rather than over the time period of a quarter:

As with the other reports, the Point in Time Rate and Case Mix Index Report date can be changed by using the date text box or the calendar in the top right corner.  You can also retrieve detailed information regarding a specific resident's CMI Summary for RUG 34 by clicking on her/his underlined name, as well as, review the RUG calculation used for that resident by clicking on the corresponding underlined RUG code for that individual.

The report summary found at the bottom of the table includes a RUG distribution of residents for this facility by RUG type and hospice status.  It also includes a summary of the total number of residents by payer source and hospice status, as well as their overall CMI averages by payer and hospice status.  If manual changes are made to payer status on this report, there is a place for the signature and date of the individual who made those changes located near the bottom of the screen.

In addition to these summaries, there is a summary table titled, "Total Residents and RUG Per Diem Averages" which breaks out the payer sources by number of residents and includes the average per diem and total dollars for each payer source.  Included are overall totals for all residents in the facility.

For ease of printing, all of these reports have a "Printer Friendly Format" link located in the top right of the pages.  When you click this link, a new screen will open which will allow you to print the report without the gold navigation bar and the blue banner at the top.
